Spring is here in some locations and just around the corner in other areas of the country. Seasonal allergies definitely are upon us. Earlier I blogged about iphone/ipod Apps that could help with allergies. One called Pollen will give you pollen counts by your zip code. There are several web sites that do the same thing. This sounded really great to me at the time.
The theory is if you feel bad, you can look up what’s high and know what you are allergic to. Well, MAYBE…
The more I have investigated these counts, the more confusing it gets. Grasses can be sky high in the 10,000s, but if you are not allergic to grass, it won’t bother you. On the other hand, juniper can be very low 4-5 and if you are allergic to juniper and if the juniper shrub is in your yard, you can be having major allergic reactions. So as nice and convenient this information seems, it really doesn’t work in real life unless you know exactly what you are allergic to.
